I've always dreamed of creating my own Zelda game, or at least doing level design/etc, but unfortunately I'm no programmer, I know that RPG Maker as a whole doesn't require any (or much anyways) coding knowledge, but this being my first endeavor, I want to use PZE to build it, I do have some basic knowledge of coding (I've done BASIC, and Pascal years ago) and I've used Game maker a little bit, I do want to learn a programming language eventually, but for now I'd just be happy with this.

So basically I'm looking for some tutorials here or some guidance on how to go about actually using the RPG Maker XP and creating my own game with the engine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[PZE4 Beta3] List of existing bugs

I've been opening this thread to list all the bugs you people have encounter on the PZE4 Beta3 (PZE4 Demo3).

If you want a final release of the engine, I count on you ! All you have to do is to download the latest version here, play and report bugs.

Please be as specific as possible, and add picture to describe the way you encounter the bug (F8 to print screen then go the snapshot directory).
Once I've reproduced the bug, I will add it to this main thread. Let's go !

List of validated bugs :

1. [2013-04-24] When I enter the area outside Earth Temple area for the first time...the HUD disappears permanently.

Correction: OK
Modification: 025. PZE Main Scripts\035. NR - Cutscene Bars.rb
Bug description: I found a variable name error. Pff took me 30mn to understand. By the way the cutscene couldn't work at all with this bug.
What rocks now : Now you've got the black lines up and down when a cutscene start !

2. [2013-04-24] All items disappear from the sub-menus once you enter the Earth Temple, and I assume that's supposed to happen. However, regardless of whether you have collected the treasures or not (this includes the generic dungeon items and keys)...every time you enter the very first room of the Earth Temple, it erases all menu items again.

Cannot reproduce it after the correction #1

3. [2013-04-24] Error when launching the game with the game.exe (conversion nil to int)

Correction: OK
Modification: 005. MX Initial Scripts\001. MX - Database Limit Breaker.rb
Bug description: Add a test to return false if event id = nil.
What rocks now: You can now play the game without opening the project.

4. [2013-04-25] Error "003-Attack01" in North town

Correction: OK
Bug description: Two animations use a missing file "Graphics/Animations/003-Attack001.png" which is in the RTP package. The file has been added.
What rocks now: You can now use the PZE4 without having to install the RTP !

5. [2013-04-27] There's the Bunny Mask glitch, wearring it increase all Link's action even if he don't wear the mask after.

Correction: OK
Modification: Map 001, Bunny Hood Skill #326, the default value was not a good one.
Bug description: The value was 4.6 instead of 4.3.
What rocks now: Bunny Hood without bug.

6. [2013-04-27] Cannot leave the potion shop in kakarico village

Correction: OK
Modification: Map 32 (Kakarico Interiors C)
Bug description: The in to out player transfer moves the player into the door. The player transfer is different from all the other kakari door transfers : the hero is moving one step when entering and leaving. I didnt change it as it could be interesting for PZE users to see both ways to do.
What rocks now: You can now leave the potion shop.

7. [2013-04-28] No more events in the kakarico museum once you take the stairs.

Correction: OK, need big testing returns to confirm
Modification: 025. PZE Main Scripts\029. MX - Antilag.rb
Bug description: The "refresh" fonction doesn't seem to refresh any "removed" events with the antilag feature (memory optimization). I force the @update to true if the event need to be refreshed.
What rocks now: Museum chests, 1/4 heart and PNJ are visible after a stears climb.

8. [2013-04-30] Marshal error when creating a new game or saving.

Correction: OK, need big testing returns to confirm
Modification: 025. PZE Main Scripts\035. NR - Cutscene Bars.rb
Bug description: The "interpreter" class stores 2 instances of a PZE object called Black_Sprite_Bar. When saving/loading a game, all game objects are serialized (transformed into characters). This operation couldnt care of this Black_Sprite_Bar.
Three changes :
- I added the serialization methods in the Black_Sprite_Bar class with an forced inizialisation on the unmarshall method
- I moved the Black_Sprite_Bar initialization from the Interpreter
- I removed the mechanism of previous hud : when the movie mode begins, the black bars appears and the hud disappears / when the movie mode finishes, he black bars disappears and the appears. The previous mechanism was to store the hud state and to restore it (if the hud was missing before the movie mode then it wont appear after).
What rocks now:You can now create a new game, save and load ! This basic mechanism is now stabilized !!!

9. [2013-05-01] You can call Epona inside Clock Town or buildings.

Correction: OK
Modification: All maps
Bug description: There was a 59 "Interior" switch created to manage this. But it was not set in the PZE4 Demo. I just added it on every transfert Inside <> Outside.
What rocks now: No more horse allowed inside

10. [2013-05-01] Singing girl in kakarico's graveyard does nothing

Correction: OK
Modification: Sining girl event
Bug description: This PNJ was teaching in older version the Zelda Lullaby. Now she teaches a new song to Link and give a VERY IMPORTANT TIP to Link.
What rocks now: Go and see by yourself

11. [2013-05-01] No Sorceress House

Correction: OK
Modification: Sorceress House's Door
Bug description: You could open the Sorceress House's Door in the graveyard but couldnt get in. Now you got a message telling that it's closed.
What rocks now: Minor correction

12. [2013-05-01] Resource missing in the prison

Correction: OK but need graphic correction
Modification: Cell's doors
Bug description: The file "Graphics/Dungeon - 01 - Door - Lower Wall.png" doesnt exit. I just replace it by a dungeon door but the graphism sucks. Need a team artist to do something more sexy
What rocks now: Minor correction

13. [2013-05-02] Magic Mirror Glitch

Correction: OK
Modification: Map01 (TOOL Database) - Mask 329
Bug description: When warping back from light to dark world (unpassable place using the magic mirror), Link was transformed back from bunny to link form in the dark world. And got back all his stuff. I've just add 2 conditions using the world switch :
- Link can transform into rabbit if and only if he's in the dark world
- Link cannot transform again into Bunny Link in the dark world if he's already in Bunny Link form

I added too a correction on the parallel process of the Sacred Grove map to correct the moon pearl suppression. There was indeed a missing switch in this initialization event. Players will have to open the chest to get the moon pearl if they don't want to transform in rabbit using the warp.
What rocks now: Magic Mirror full working

14. [2013-05-03] Save&Quit and return on the title screen

Correction: OK
Modification: 003. NR - Zelda CMS.rb

Bug description: Only a part of title scene was called on the save&quit action. I reseted the cutscene counter and called the orignal

Code:

#$scene = Scene_Cutscene.new (SCENE::MM_MAIN)
$cutscenes_shown = 0
$scene = Scene_Title.new

What rocks now: Save & Quit full operationnal

15. [2013-05-05] Infinite Potions

Correction: OK
Modification: 003. NR - Zelda CMS.rb + Map001 DataBase Tool for each bottle
Bug description: It's quite complicated. To make short there is no link between the items in the inventory menu and the items in the A,S,D buttons.
Hi...I have downloaded PS CS5 and am not quite familiar with all of its features. I once tried to recolor the Earth Temple Dungeon tileset that comes with the PZE as an experimental thing.....they seemed to look alright in rendering, and in the editor...but during play testing they looked awful and began changing to these erratic colors.

Could someone provide me with a tutorial (with screenies) on how to properly recolor a tileset so that it will display correctly during runtime?

Thanks!!

P.S. I do not use or have Gimp...I am using Photoshop CS5. I hope that's not an inconvenience ._.

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm working on a Zelda game (surprise, surprise), and my game has the player switching between controlling Link and Zelda on a fairly regular basis.

Because of this, I'd like Zelda to have her own inventory screen, that's seperate to Link's, with her own paper-doll graphic (I've decided to replace Deku Link with Zelda, which should be convenient as I can test it using the Deku Link graphic).

And, because I won't be using masks in my game, I'd like this second inventory to replace the mask screen.

Can this be done? And if so, how?
